[So much for that indeed--though if Sousei were to be entirely honest, they've improved his opinion of the Shinsengumi a great deal. It's not like they had a particularly great reputation in his time either, after all.
But Shinpachi, and Sano....]
...Nonetheless, they are good people. [He'll acknowledge that much.] And good sparring partners.
[In response to that, he simply nods--and then being not particularly good with pleasantries, he's willing to take that as a farewell, and turn on his heel and go.
That sort of thing is an issue in a lot of arenas. BUt still, that just means the sort of people who can rise above it are extra important. Those sort of people could inspire a lot of hope in the world.
[And hope is good! Hope is always the best thing, but he's calmed down on some of his more fanatical hope-mongering.]
You have a sensible head on your shoulders, but despite that you are incapable of taking care of yourself. You overdo it when it is not necessary. You struggle with not taking everything onto your shoulders alone.
[Komaeda nods, emphatically now.] It can be difficult and come at a price, but I still think it's important. But there's more too. Even in this strange place, we all need to have that hope, right? Of getting back where we all belong.
[Not that Komaeda is in a super hurry to get back to his world to be in a coma and not be sure if he'll even remember everything that's happened here. Still, it's only right for people to find their way home in general.]
[ At some point, of them stopped keeping track of their personal wins and losses when they sparred. Saitou has both won and lost against Shinpachi and Sano, and it's always been a way to pass free time. ]
[ She catches his almost-smile. Kind enough to not draw attention to it, her own smile blossoms, as if expressing all he might not. A ‘necessary appearance’, as he puts it, does not sound like a great deal of fun but he didn’t have to come. Not really.
Unless he felt Tenka should not be without a chaperone. ]
I know!
[ Pyrrha, don’t - ]
Let’s dance. I won’t trip over you, I promise.
[ Is Pyrrha even capable of tripping? She runs around in thigh-high heeled boots, often across uneven terrain, even fights with them... Who knows. ]
[Though judging by his expression, he's.... in some form of agreement, at least. Definitely not enjoying this. Yet his steps go along with the music well enough....
Why couldn't this be something that he forgot over the years....]
Just since Sousei admitted that, he'll let him get away with that friendly gauntlet throwing there. Some other day Shinpachi can pick up the gauntlet and slap Sousei in the face with it, but he's already getting what he wanted out of this conversation - a genuine declaration. Bless you, Sousei. ]
Oh--! [ He's exaggerating his reaction though, totally.. he knows Sousei doesn't dislike him, but it's just fun to make a Big Deal out of it like this. ]
C'mon, say that again! I have to make sure to record it for the future!
[ Here he goes to try and find his CereVice.. but whereas normal people might grab it out of their pocket, he just sticks a hand down his open shirt.
[Oof, he felt that one hit him... like an evidence bullet gone wrong at a trial...]
...
...I know. I am trying. [He looks out over the dance floor.] I remind myself of it, that I don't have to be constantly doing something. [And it's slowly, slowly coming along.]
[So far so good? It looks like the threat is over, so she puts the sword away, tucking it back in and straightening her skirts. Only when she's finished does she stand upright to answer.
So he met America. Vietnam's unsure whether that would be a good or bad thing, but at least it makes things easier.]
Yes, I am. Just like America, only I represent Vietnam. You were a friend of his?
Is that so? That is very kind of the two of you to shelter them...
[ The longer Horikawa talks to this person, the more precious he's seeming out to be. Abe no Sousei, is it... He'll do his best to remember that name from now on. ]
Well then, Sousei-san... Should you ever require assistance from another sword in the future, my own is yours to wield. [ He means that he'll fight along with Sousei from now on. Horikawa has joined the party! ] I promise you that I will repay your good favor ten-fold.
[souji isn't really too surprised at sousei's capabilities; he's already proven himself to be reasonable and skilled more than once, after all. still, that doesn't make it any less amusing (or even impressive) how he chooses to handle it. the motions are quick and swift, enough so that even the glass manages to stay in tact—and he knows that not many people would be able to pull a move like that off.
which is why sousei manages to earn something of a slow clap from souji... which could probably be perceived as a bit sarcastic, but it's not his intent. or, it's not entirely his intent, but souji will always be a shit about things.]
Not bad, not bad. Still, it would have been more fun to see what would have happened the other way. [souji, no.]
... But that just gets a blink from him, as he attempts to process that. Of all of the things he was expecting Pyrrha to say, inviting him to dance was not even on the list. And it isn't that he can't dance, because he is indeed very capable of it--being forced to attend formal functions makes it a necessity.
But he hardly enjoys the activity, and he doesn't need her thinking that she has to invite him out to dance out of pity for his wallflower ways.
So he recovers.]
...That won't be necessary. Dance with someone who would enjoy the activity.
[And now Shinpachi is ruining it. You know what, Shinpachi, this is why people like Sousei don't make these dramatic declarations very often. Because you people come and ruin it.
Ruiner.
Regardless, Sousei just narrows his eyes at that, crossing his arms in response, and--]
No. Don't be ridiculous.
[...]
I won't.
[Was it really necessary to say it three different ways, Sousei....]
