[ But what's a good battle without sass and banter, Sousei.. were the Yamainu really so boring that they couldn't even do that much, the Shinsengumi did it all the time during battle!
Fine though, he'll do what he said, at least. He knows that Sousei is capable enough that he can afford it to not focus on the other and yet know for sure that he won't just get eaten or anything.
Instead Shinpachi stares at the monster, before moving forward just when the monster lowers its head, swinging his katana just angled so it slides straight into the monster's eye with a sickening sound.
Withdrawing the weapon quickly, he moves it into the other eye right after while he has the opportunity before moving back a little. Blood oozes from the creature's eyes, and it howls in agony as it starts trashing around. ]
There, let's see if it can try to eat us now!
[ Well, after Shinpachi shuts up so it won't be able to track them by sound.. he just needed a moment to be proud of himself, let him have it. ]
[Nah, the Yamainu sassed and bantered, Sousei just was the odd one out there........ he's eternally the lame one.
It's good work though on Shinpachi's end; Sousei hurriedly gets out from under the creature and rejoins Shinpachi a safe distance away, inspecting the monster's agonized rampage. Well, it can't see them, but...]
It won't matter if it can't eat us if it crushes us to death.
[The stomping and rampaging is kind of concerning... Sousei quirks an eyebrow at Shinpachi then.]
Can you be even louder and more obnoxious? Try to get its attention.
[ Well, it's only fair that they take turns being the bait.. and it's not like Shinpachi doesn't trust Sousei with his back, so he's not even particularly concerned about having to draw the attention of a huge stomping and rampaging monster. (Although that might also just partially be something being wrong with Shinpachi himself, honestly..) ]
Sounds like it'll be hard, but I'll try. [ With a slightly crooked grin.. because yeah, he knows he's loud and obnoxious, okay. He's proud of it. Sort of.
But it makes for a good skill in this situation, since it means he can run closer - but still out of range - to the monster, a good distance away from Sousei. ]
Hey! [ It's amazing how much volume can come out of Shinpachi sometimes.. when he actually tries to be loud rather than naturally being loud it's even worse. ] Lookin' for me?!
[ At least it's working, since the monster is wildly starting to move in his direction. ]
[There is something definitely not quite right in the head for Shinpachi, but it's okay, Sousei's the same way. They're in good company....
Because when the monster starts to move in Shinpachi's direction, it's flailing much less and rampaging around in one particular direction. That's much, much easier to deal with than the mess from before.
So Sousei circles around the back, trusting Shinpachi to keep the monster distracted for as long as possible, and then he draws his sword again and slashes straight into the monster's leg.
He doesn't hesitate to move quickly to the next leg, slicing as deep a cut as he can, before the monster finally decides to deal with the pain thereabouts--but by then, Sousei's made it to the third leg, and three out of four means it can't remain standing.
Hopefully, that brings it down to their level a little bit.
Though the fall by the giant monster sends Sousei tumbling, even if he did manage to avoid being squished.]
[ Yeah, giant monsters falling? That's just not a lot of fun for anyone involved. Shinpachi isn't even as close to the thing and even he's having to try and keep his balance for a moment when the rumble it causes almost threatens to knock him off his feet.
Except being further away means it's a little easier for him to just keep standing. And he can still see Sousei tumbling for a moment, and he can see the monster moving, flailing wildly to try and grab whatever is doing this to him-- ]
Sousei..!
[ Shinpachi sprints forward, latching onto the other's wrist and tugging him just out of the way when the monster's claw comes down hard on exactly the spot where the other was standing just now. ]
He's dragged out of the way by Shinpachi, which is a very good thing because he's still a little dazed from the overall collision that threw him right off his feet; he stumbles along, but it's a little tough to hear anything over the ringing in his hears (and amidst everything in Cerealia, he'll never underestimate how important hearing is ever again, really).
The monster's down for the count, though, dazed or dead or what-have-you, and ViViD seems to have decided that that's enough; it spits them out into one of the side roads in the Pleasure District, and Sousei stumbles and catches himself on a wall, the other wrist still held by Shinpachi.
He shakes his head, eyes narrowed, trying to shake off the vertigo.]
[ Give him a second to even catch up, really. The transition from ViViD to normal life is already weird enough usually, but when it's happening so suddenly it really induces a rush of vertigo unlike any other. It's only after a moment of calming down that he realises he still is holding Sousei's wrist, and he quickly lets go before straightening himself. ]
Don't even mention it. [ He groans a little, moving a hand up to his head and through his hair to confirm that he, in fact, really is back here. ] I wish this place would just stop pulling that bullshit.
[Sousei certainly doesn't mind the contact, for once, if only because Shinpachi just got finished making sure he didn't become a Sousei pancake...that's a good reason to grab his wrist, okay.
But he nods simply, shaking the remaining ringing in his ears away, before he inspects the city.
Same as ever...]
Honestly. [...] What a pain in the ass. [wow that was crude, sousei

I suppose we can count that as a victory.
