[Practice, he just needs practice.

Be thankful Tenka isn't here to see his confusion as he holds flowers and looks at a board game.]

This is a good thing to do! [She puffs her cheeks out.]

[.... is it......... (he's very thankful Tenka isn't here to see this). But nonetheless, he just slowly arches an eyebrow. Uh.

Can he put the flowers away first... (what does he do with flowers)]

...Fine. I will require you to teach me the rules. [He'll... put them in a cup or something, that works, right???]

[It's a very good thing. Still she looks excited that Sousei isn't turning her away. That's progress right?

Almost too excited she nods and looks around for a place they could place the game down on.]

Okay! It's really easy, I'll show you!

[She's too much for him... he wouldn't even know where to begin. So instead, in an attempt to sort of... minimize the damage, he leads her to the living room table. They've decorated Japanese-style, so you'll have to sit on a mat on the floor, Lily--which Sousei does.]

...Very well then.

[he'll...try to learn this game....

(he doesn't know what he's doing with his life)]

[Following after him like a duckling, she looks at the familiar table and goes to sit on the floor. It was still odd to her to sit on the floor but she isn't above it. The floor was actually pretty comfortable.]

Yay!

[Her excitement is very clear now. She won this battle!

Opening the box she puts the board on the table and then starts to pull out the pieces.]

Do you wanna be red or black?

[Is this a trick question.

Does one do more than another--is there a difference...is this a personality test??? Sousei has no idea what's happening here.

Red doesn't really suit him, though, so in the end--]

...Black.

[He's hoping that wasn't a trick question, but either way he'll never be able to pick a Tenka Color.]

[Sousei...you have some trust issues.

Waiting she smiles when he finally picks a color. Setting the pieces onto the squares she then looks at him, then back to the set.

She did a good job with it!]

Okay! I'm red, you move the pieces forward and try to jump over the other person pieces! You can do a lot at a time if they are open. But there has to be a free space behind them! When you jump them you take the piece and keep it.

Oh! and you can't move backwards unless you get to the far side of the other persons place. Then you say 'King me!' then you take one of the pieces you took and put on top, like a crown! That piece can move allll over!

[He's quiet for a moment, processing all of that. Can't move backwards. Try to "jump" the others' pieces...? He can make an educated guess what that's supposed to mean.

...]

You turn your piece into a king. [Trying to...make sure he has this down right.] But the goal is not to make kings. Is it to clear the board?

[She tries so hard...this is hard to explain maybe?]

Uh-huh! You want kings so you can move anywhere you want...to clear the board.

I believe I understand the game.

[sort of.]

If I fail to follow the rules properly, tell me so.

[But he...supposes he's going to pl...ay....]

Okay! We can start then.

[Lily grins, she will let him know if he messes up.]

You go first!

[... well. He inspects the pieces for a moment before finally deciding on a piece and moving it forward, diagonally. It feels...odd, but he thinks that he'll get the hang of this game by the time they've finished a game, even if he has to swallow a loss before they get to that point.]

[Watching Sousei move his piece, Lily looks at the board...hm, what should she move? After a few moments she moves one of her side pieces forward.]

[And so they play, though Sousei struggles mildly with the rules and the game. He mostly keeps his struggles to himself, but he's

definitely a little slow as he plays.

And ponders out each move.

Hmmmmm.]

[The game is going well to Lily, he is a lot more calculating with this than she thought. They could try chess another time but she is no where as good as Vincent.

Watching his movements she's sure to keep track and take a few of his pieces, though she sets herself up for him to take a couple at once.]

[He's uncertain, for a moment, if you can even link jumps like that... casting back to her explanation of the rules, he thinks he recalls her saying that he can.

For such a simple game, trying to learn how to play it properly is surprisingly complex...

Nonetheless, after a moment he decides to go for it SHE'LL TELL HIM IF HE'S WRONG. But he's always been an all or nothing sort, so pieces capturing is a go!]

[Staring at the board she watches as he grabs her pieces and lands on one of her back squares...wow, she did even notice that!]

...you have to say king me now.

[Ah, so it was right.

He pauses. ... Whoops.]

... King me.

[There!!

Which he says with complete and deliberate seriousness. At least he's not taking her lightly at all.]

[There is a playful pout as she gives up her piece to him. Sousei was fun to play with. Even his serious tone gets her to laugh softly.]

You're good at this!

[No, he doesn't really think he is... he did get a king, but now that he's looking over the game board, he can see where he should have done other things differently, and how she still has so many chances to take his pieces in turn.

Basically, he's a perfectionist.

But he can at least respond vaguely normally to that.]

I believe I am getting the hang of this game.

[Lily is still going to try and beat him! It's a strategy game but still really fun.]

You are...Ah!

[She jumps two of his pieces.]

Got you!

[Ah.... that was a good one. He nods to himself as he sees where he allowed her to set up for that one, pondering the rest of the board. It's close, but... hm.]

Have you played this often?

[It's honestly just curiosity, even as he moves one of his pieces in turn. She comes across as a child, and in many ways is a child, but... there are moments when she is surprising as well.]

Huh?

[Looking at his new move, she takes a moment before she answers the question.]

Not very much...Vincent and Master Glen play Chess...I'm not very good at it. It's a lot harder.

[The game of kings...was not her cup of tea.]

Why?

[He's not familiar with that one either..... hm. Or with those names.

But nonetheless--]

It is not the sort of game I was expecting from you.

[He'll share that much honestly enough.]

[He hasn't had the pleasure of meeting Vincent then...he is a treat.]

Really?

[She quiet for a minute and then pouts a little.]

The ones here are hard...I can't win at them...and Sou doesn't seem like the type to play tag.

[AKA she picked a game she thought you would actually play with her.]
